What you need to check

A bond is money you pay before moving in, in case of damage. You must be a permanent resident and not own a home. Your income and assets must be under set limits. For example, $811 a week for a single person, and assets under $27,644. Your share of the rent must be less than 55% of your income before tax. From 1 October 2026, you can borrow up to $2,250 for a 1-bedroom home, or up to $3,050 for 3 bedrooms. Do not pay the bond yourself before you are approved.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
