Accessibility
How we make unclaimd accessible.
We want unclaimd to work for you, however you use the web. That includes a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, zoom or a small phone. This page says what we aim for, how we check it, and what still needs work.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. These are the world's main rules for making websites work for people with disability.
- You can use every page with a keyboard. A skip link takes you straight to the main content.
- Pages fit small screens and still work when you zoom in to 200%.
- Text and buttons stand out clearly from the page behind them.
- If your device asks for less motion, the moving picture on our pages stays still.
- You can skip any question in the finder. We write in plain words, for about a Year 7 reading level.
How we check
Before each release, automated tests check every page against WCAG 2.2 AA, at desktop and phone sizes. We also measure how easy each page is to read.
What still needs work
- Automated tests find many problems, but not all of them. We have not yet had a full manual audit, or testing by people who use screen readers and other assistive tools.
- Listings use some words from official government pages, so a few may be harder to read than our own pages.
- Government websites we link to are run by those agencies. We can't fix problems on them. If one is hard to use, contact the agency. Its page lists other ways to apply.
Tell us about a problem
If something on unclaimd is hard to use, please tell us. Email hello@unclaimd.org, or use the contact form. Tell us the page and what went wrong. A person reads every message and replies, usually within two business days.
We can also send you the information you need in another way, such as plain text by email.
