Ask for an interpreter

TIS National can get you an interpreter to talk to a government agency, like Centrelink. For most of these calls the interpreter is free. The call costs the same as a local call.

TIS National 131 450

When it answers, say the language you need. Then say who you want to talk to.

To talk to Centrelink with a staff member who speaks your language, call the Multilingual Phone Service (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm) on 131 202.

Deaf, or find it hard to hear or speak? The relay service is free, though your normal call or text costs apply. Use the National Relay Service (opens in a new tab): TTY 133 677, Voice Relay 1300 555 727, SMS Relay 0423 677 767.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages

Services Australia says you can ask for an Indigenous interpreter, for free. Interpreters are available in a range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.

Centrelink Indigenous Call Centre: 1800 136 380 (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm).

Auslan

If you use Auslan, Video Relay lets you sign your call. A Relay Officer speaks your words to the person you call, and signs their words back. It works through Microsoft Teams or the NRS app. How Video Relay works (opens in a new tab).

Using unclaimd

unclaimd is a website in English, and finding support on it is free. It helps you find government money you may be able to claim, like payments, rebates and concessions. You then claim it on the government’s own website.

unclaimd is only in English for now. We do not translate the rules for payments, because a wrong translation could cost you money. Check the rules on the official site, with an interpreter if you need one.

You can write to us in English, or someone you trust can write for you. Our email is hello@unclaimd.org.

Phone numbers and links were checked on each official site on 2 November 2026. If something here is different from the official site, the official site is right. Tell us so we can fix it.
