What you need to check

Stamp duty is a tax you pay when you buy property. It can be a new or older home, or land to build on. Everyone buying must be 18 or over. At least one buyer must be an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident. You must live there for 12 months in a row, starting within 12 months of settlement. You cannot get it if you or your partner already got first home help, owned a home before 1 July 2000, or lived in a home you owned for 6 months or more. People who have experienced family violence may still be able to get it.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
