What you need to check

If you own and live in your home, you can get up to $250 a year off rates and waste charges. You can also get up to $43.75 a quarter ($175 a year) off your council water bill. You need a Pensioner Concession Card from Centrelink, or a Veterans’ Affairs card given for certain reasons (for example to war widows and widowers, or TPI veterans). Health Care Cards do not count. If you own the home with someone who is not eligible, you get part of the rebate. Each pensioner fills in the Pensioner Concession Application and adds a copy of their card. Call 02 4306 7900 with questions.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
