What you need to check

You must get an eligible Centrelink payment and pay more than a set amount of rent. Public housing tenants cannot get it. For each $1 of rent above that amount, you get 75 cents, up to a limit. The most a single person can get is $223.80 a fortnight, or $149.20 if you share a home. Couples can get up to $211.00. Families get up to $263.06 with 1 or 2 children, or $297.36 with 3 or more. Rates change on 20 March and 20 September.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
