What you need to check
This is for people who own and live in their ACT home and own no other property. Something unexpected, like losing your job or getting sick, must have happened in the last 12 months. You need to own at least 10% of your home outright and have home insurance. Your home must be worth no more than the ACT middle price. You must have paid something toward your home loan in the last six months, and first ask your bank for hardship help. The loan only pays missed repayments (up to $5,000) or missed and coming repayments, up to $10,000 in total. It is paid to your bank. You start paying it back six months later, over five years, with no interest.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
