What you need to check
The Department of Treasury and Finance holds money that businesses and agencies could not pay, such as rental bond refunds, share dividends, vehicle licence refunds, education refunds and utility overpayments. It does not hold super, life insurance, old bank accounts or money from other states. Search the register by name. Claim online with ID, bank details and documents that link you to the money, or post a witnessed statutory declaration. Claims take about 90 days. Some agents offer to find money for a fee. Treasury has no link with them. Phone 08 6551 2600.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
