What you need to check

Your power, gas or water company must first agree you are in hardship. You must keep to a payment plan for at least 90 days. If you still owe more than $300, the company can apply for you. The grant pays up to 85% of what you owe. Bottled gas is not covered. For water bills, only home owners who live there can get it.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
