What you need to check
STAS cancels the school levy. It is not paid as cash. The parent or guardian must hold a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card (including a Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card). A student’s own card does not count. Grandparents who are legally responsible for a grandchild can apply. Children in out-of-home care get it automatically. It does not apply to home-educated students. At Catholic and independent schools, the school decides.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
