What you need to check

You must be a Tasmanian resident. You must travel more than 75 km one way to the nearest eligible clinic, or more than 50 km one way for cancer or dialysis. You cannot get it if DVA or MAIB already helps. Interstate help is only for services not available in Tasmania. From 1 July 2026 it pays 30c a km. Accommodation is up to $80 a night in Tasmania or up to $105 a night interstate. If you do not hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or DVA Pensioner Concession Card, you pay the first $82.50 of each return trip, up to $330 a year. Fill in the application form. Your doctor completes section 2 and a clinician completes section 3. Phone numbers for regional offices are on the page.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
