What you need to check
The Department of Treasury and Finance holds money that businesses could not pay for 5 years or more, such as refunds, uncashed cheques, wages, dividends, money from estates and unclaimed rental bonds. It does not hold super, bank accounts, shares or life insurance. Search the Register of Unclaimed Money by name, then press Start Application. Upload ID certified by a Justice of the Peace and proof of your link to the money, and enter your bank details. A decision usually takes about 20 business days. Phone 08 8372 7502 (option 4).
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
