What you need to check

QLeave records your service even when you change employers. In building and construction and in contract cleaning, you can claim 8.67 weeks’ pay after 10 years. In community services it is 6.1 weeks after 7 years, and the first claims open in January 2028. You must not be working while you take the leave. If you leave building and construction or contract cleaning for good, you may be able to claim part of it sooner. Weekly pay is capped at $2,548 (from 1 July 2026). Check your yearly statement. If service is missing, ask your employer. Claim through the online portal, or ask for a paper form. If a worker has died, the executor or administrator of their estate can claim. Phone 1300 753 283.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
