What you need to check

You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. You must have lived in the NT for at least 6 months and be registered with Medicare. You need a current referral to the nearest approved specialist in the NT, and you must live more than 75 km from that specialist. For renal or cancer treatment, you may qualify if you travel more than 250 km in one week. It pays $50 a trip for taxis or public transport, and $20 to $90 a night for accommodation depending on type. It does not cover everything. Your GP or another authorised healthcare provider must submit the application. A patient travel officer usually books your travel.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
