What you need to check
In these industries, your long service leave builds up across all your employers, and the Long Service Corporation records your service. In building and construction and in contract cleaning, you can get 8.67 weeks’ pay after 10 years. In community services, you can get about 6.1 weeks after 7 years. Building and construction workers may claim sooner if they leave the industry for good, retire or can no longer work in it. Log in to the Worker Portal to see your recorded service and yearly statement. Check that the record is right before you claim, because it cannot be changed after a claim is paid. In building and construction, if you leave the industry and claim with less than 10 years, your registration is cancelled.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
