What you need to check
You must live in NSW or on Lord Howe Island and be eligible for Medicare. You must live more than 100 km from the nearest treating specialist, or your trips to that specialist must add up to more than 200 km in one week. The treatment must not be available locally. You cannot get it if another scheme or insurer pays. It pays $40 a night if you stay with family or friends. At not-for-profit or commercial places it pays $75 a night for the first 7 nights, then $120 a night. It does not cover all costs. Register on the IPTAAS online portal and lodge your application. Call 1800 478 227 if you need help.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
