What you need to check
You get this card automatically with the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment or single Parenting Payment. Some people on JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance (job seeker) also get it, for example single principal carers of children. People aged 55 or over who have got JobSeeker, Parenting Payment (partnered) or Special Benefit for more than 9 months also get it. So do some people who can only work part time because of an illness or disability. It can get you state rebates on energy, rates, water and transport. You can often keep it for a while after starting work.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
