What you need to check
This is a loan, not a gift. You use your home or other Australian property as security, and pay it back with interest (3.95% a year) and legal costs. You or your partner must be Age Pension age and get, or qualify for, a pension. This includes people who qualify but get no pension because their income or assets are too high. Your property must be properly insured. The loan is not taxed, and a no negative equity guarantee applies.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
