What you need to check
If you get Family Tax Benefit and a child in your care dies, you can keep getting it for that child for up to 14 weeks. You can have it as a lump sum or every fortnight. The amount depends on your family income and your children’s ages. Parenting Payment, Carer Payment and Carer Allowance can also continue for up to 14 weeks. If your baby died soon after birth, you may also get Parental Leave Pay or the Newborn Upfront Payment. Claims after a stillbirth or a baby’s death must be made within 52 weeks.
