What you need to check
You must be at least 16 and under the age you can get the Age Pension. You can start a claim up to 13 weeks before you turn 16. You must meet the residence rules. Your income and assets must be under the limits. You must also meet the medical rules: in general, your condition must be likely to last more than 2 years and stop you working. Some Veterans’ Affairs payments can make you ineligible. Couples get $933.00 each, and rates change each March and September. People under 21 with no children get lower rates. Claim online through myGov linked to Centrelink and choose “Disabled, ill or injured”. You will need medical evidence. If you can’t claim online, you can claim by form. For help, call the disability and carers line on 132 717, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
