What you need to check
You must be a permanent resident of the ACT or Jervis Bay Territory. You must have a Medicare card or be enrolled to get one. An ACT or Queanbeyan-registered medical professional must refer you to the closest interstate service that can give the care. The care must not be available in the ACT, in public or private health care. You cannot get it if an insurer or another agency helps with the costs. It can help with some costs of driving, public transport or flights, and some accommodation. Rates are in the scheme guidelines, so check them before you travel. Fill in the ACT IPTAS claim form and send it with your receipts within six months of travel.
This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
