## What you need to check

If you hold a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card, the Department of Health can help pay for some medical aids. These include CPAP sleep machines (with a sleep specialist’s script), and orthotics and artificial limbs (with a referral from a GP, allied health worker or specialist). Compression garments for lymphoedema (swelling) need a specialist’s assessment approved by the Royal Hobart or Launceston General Hospital. Special nutrition products need a dietitian’s assessment. Help with wigs is for people with cancer or hair loss referred by a doctor, and needs a Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans’ Affairs card. Other funders, such as the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) or Veterans’ Affairs, are used first where they apply.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
