## What you need to check

Under shared equity, the government pays part of the price and owns that share of your home. You need a deposit of at least 2%. You must be 18 or older and an Australian citizen. You cannot own any property in Australia or overseas now. Your yearly taxable income must be $103,000 or less, or $165,000 for single parents and joint applicants. The home must be under the price cap for its area, and you must live in it. There are 10,000 places each year. You pay the government’s share back when you can, or when you sell.

This is a short summary. Other rules may apply, like income or where you live. Check the full rules with the agency that runs it.
